Arimidex uses

womanArimidex is used as a supportive treatment in postmenopausal women with hormone receptor-positive early breast cancer.
Arimidex is used as a first-line treatment for postmenopausal women with hormone receptor-positive breast cancer or breast cancer with unknown hormone receptor status. It is also used in women with locally advanced or metastatic breast cancer.
Arimidex as a second-line treatment is used to manage advanced breast cancer in postmenopausal women with the signs of cancer progression after the treatment with tamoxifen.

Types of Breast Cancer

Today there are  different types of this diseases  (breast cancer),  including:

  • IDC (invasive ductal carcinoma ),
  •   recurrent breast cancer,
  •  male breast cancer,
  •  ILC (invasive lobular carcinoma),
  • metastatic breast cancer,
  • inflammatory breast cancer,
  • DCIS (ductal carcinoma in situ ), and more.



Many women use this drug for treatment  breast cancer in postmenopausal, because Arimidex  lowers estrogen levels.  Your doctor may recommend it especially, if  after taking tamoxifen, such as:Soltamox, Nolvadex, you don’t have results and  your cancer has progressed.

Before taking

This drug is not for use in  children or men. Also you don’t use it if you have allergic reaction to anastrozole, if you have not yet completed menopause and if you have the next problems :

• circulation problems;

• heart disease;

• a history of blood clot;

• a history of stroke;

• high cholesterol; or

• severe liver disease;

• low bone mineral density or osteoporosis.

Arimidex can increase your risk of developing osteoporosis, because decreases bone mineral density.

Arimidex with other drugs

This drug may not work as well if you take it together with an estrogen or  tamoxifen  medication (for example  estrogen creams, hormone replacement therapy,or birth control  injections,pills, skin patches,  vaginal rings, implants). Tell yourprovider if you  take estrogen or tamoxifen, before you start taking Arimidex.

There may be other medicine that can interact with this drug. Tell your doctor about all  prescription,herbal products, medications,vitamin,over-the-counter you use.
